Q-How old do I have to be to play Tactical Laser Tag? The minimum age is 7 years old. This is not only dictated by our Insurance company, but also a good age for kids to be able to handle the equipment and still have a great time. Q-Is this a kids' game? No, and yes. Tactical Laser Tag is so incredibly versatile it can be played by young children at a birthday party one day, then used as a military exercise the next. One event might be an all girl party. Then next a tournament with all paintball experienced players. The mission variety also allows for the game to be only as complex as you want it to be. Q-What should I wear? All participants should wear closed-toed shoes. Long pants are suggested for playing in the woods or if anticipating sliding on artifical turf. Otherwise, just wear whatever is comfortable for movement in the battlefield environment and weather. Players will be wearing a headband that might not fit over some hats. Q-What equipment will I have to wear? One of the many great things about Tactical Laser Tag is there is no burdensome equipment to wear. Each player will carry a laser tag weapon and wear a headband with two lightweight sensors. Q-Is it safe? Tactical Laser Tag is safer than most sports or recreational activities. The equipment uses infrared beams like that of your TV remote control. There is actually no "laser" involved. NO CONTACT is permitted and the event is fully supervised to ensure a safe environment. Since no safety equipment is required you don't need to worry about players taking it off during play. We inspect all battlefields and provide referees that keep a close watch that all players are being safe. Q-Where can we play? Tactical Laser Tag can be played indoors or outdoors, in the woods or in a field using inflatable bunkers, in a gym or warehouse. The possibilities are endless. If you do not have a suitable location contact your local parks, armory, community center or sportsplex. All of these have been used. Many parties and events take place in yards or on church/school property. Tactical Laser Tag can be played in the light rain/snow, in bright sunlight, or anything in between. Though it can be played in the dark, safety and vision are much better with some light. Q-How many people can play at once? Up to 20 people can play at one time. However, some battlefields are best played by less. Depending on a variety of factors games are best suited to between 2 on 2 to 10 on 10. As a guideline, small gyms using inflatable bunkers are good for 4 on 4 adults or 6 on 6 kids. Large gyms and soccer fields are good for between 6 on 6 and 10 on 10 with the inflatable bunkers. It is not uncommon to have spectactular game play with 20 kids and adults in a typical yard. Q-Are the red dot scopes really necessary? Yes. The infrared beam fired by the laser tag weapons is very tight and only shot effectively if well aimed. Q-Are the t-shirts and dog tags worth the extra money? Absolutely. The t-shirts and dog tags would sell for $10-15 each retail. We buy in bulk and get a great discount. Then, we offer them to you at our cost for the marketing value. The t-shirts are of good quality and have our logo on the front and pictures on the back. The dog tags include our logo on one side and a combat picture on the other. Q-Is it like paintball? It can be very similar to paintball in gameplay, but definitely not in terms of safety, pain and mess. Since we shoot light there is no lobbing required and our equipment shoots up to 600 feet. When your hit points are gone the laser tag weapon shuts off, so cheating is impossible. Some games are played elimination style but many are respawn games the allow all players to reactivate and play the entire time limit. Q-Is it like the laser tag I played before when I was on vacation? Not so much. Tactical Laser Tag is more exciting, intense and strategic. Our games reward teamwork. And, the equipment shoots farther and requires aiming. However, Tactical Laser Tag is very versatile. For young children it is like conventional laser tag with a bigger adrenaline rush. For teenagers it is more like a live-action video game that is immersive. For weekend warriors it is the ultimate in action fun with friends. Q-Why haven't I heard of this kind of thing before? The technology required to fire tight infrared beams for long distances in bright sunlight is fairly new and originated in Australia. There are probably only a couple dozen commercial outdoor laser tag businesses in the entire United States. The equipment is also very expensive making it accessible to only those interested in running a professional operation. Q-Can it really be used as a tactical exercise? Absolutely. Unlike paintball and other pursuit combat sports Tactical Laser Tag equipment performs more realistic and does not require safety gear. Players can wear duty uniforms and play in the environment that they work. This allows for more realistic missions and a higher intensity. Q-Do players ever get hurt? Not only is it very rare that a player gets hurt, the severity is so minor that the player doesn't even want to stop playing. In 3 years we have seen maybe a couple bandaids and a handful of youthful tears. Things that are expected with children running and playing. Q-What is the equipment like? Tactical Laser Tag equipment is very advanced yet simple to use. After 3 minutes of briefing any player can operate their laser tag weapon with full confidence. The equipment is of the proper weight for realistic gameplay, made with a metal housing for durability. Each unit has a trigger, reload button, and button to change rate-of-fire if desired, and a scope. Some units have adjustable stocks. There are two sensors on a headband and one sensor on the unit. Q-Do I have to have a big group to play? No. Private event packages are for 8 players or more. Less can play but the price is the same. There are often public sessions and leagues where players can join the play individually. Check out the Scheduled Events page for opportunities near you. |
