BASIC TACTICS:

SHOOTING: Line up your shots quickly, keeping your weapon and scope ready to aim at all times. When getting hit, hide immediately.

DON'T CLUSTER: Clustering can get all of you shot by one opponent or friendly fire. Spread out and get different angles on the opponent.

PROPER USE OF COVER: Avoid touching the cover, it gives away your position. Don't stand so that you are visible above the cover, you'll get shot from all angles. Slowly pop out the side scanning the view for opponents. Make sure the barrel of the weapon is clearing the cover when you shoot.

COMMUNICATION: Effective squads communicate. Let them know when you are pinned down and from where. Communicate opponents locations and movement. Let your teammates know when you are about to move only if you cannot be heard by the opponent.

ADVANCED TACTICS:

MOVEMENT: Whenever possible, move quickly and silently scanning the view with your weapon ready.

STAY ON YOUR FEET: If in an area where you can be rushed or flanked by your opponent, avoid lying down or limiting your mobility. You always want the ability to change your position or angle quickly, even pounce when appropriate.

WAIT FOR A GOOD SHOT: Shooting blindly or through cover rarely makes a hit, but it is great for getting you noticed. Wait until you have a good shot. If you make a hit they will dive for cover and you can keep them pinned down. If you miss, they will shoot at you and keep you pinned down.

SUPPRESS & FLANK: This tactic is the most effective military maneuver. Have one player or group of players shoot to keep the opponents pinned down while another player (or group) moves around the side to get a better angle. Once you have two wide angles on the opponent the game gets much easier.

SEND OUT A SCOUT: In advanced missions don't risk giving away your entire team's position. Send out a scout to locate the opponent. If the scout draws fire they have only given away their own position and you can see where the opponents are shooting from.

SQUAD TACTICS:

FIRE TEAMS: Separate into groups of 2 players. Each Fire Team will share an objective, like suppressing, flanking, attacking, defending, etc. Within the fire team each player can cover different angles. Keep each player far enough apart that one opponent cannot aim at more than one at a time. Stay close enough together that you can communicate without being overheard. Use hand signals in stealth mode.

Choose your weapons based on the objectives of the Fire Team. A Fire Team that will be suppressing and sniping should have an M4 and a Commando. A Fire Team that is moving in close to the opponent to complete an objective should have at least one Spitfire.

ELECT A LEADER: Choose someone that is smarter than they are brave. Then, (this is a very important part) follow his/her lead. Each team should have a leader and each fire team should have one. The fire teams are directed by the team leader. Individual players are directed by the fire team leader. Nobody likes being bossed around, but the experience is truly intense when you need to carry out orders. Knowing you can't just change your objective when meeting opposition can really provide an adrenaline rush that you won't get when you're just doing your own thing.

Tactical Squad Simulator is generally played as a 4-man squad. Separate into 2 Fire Teams, A & B. The Squad Leader will also be Fire Team A Leader. Then, have one of the Fire Team B players lead that Fire Team and follow the orders of the Squad Leader. You can always change who leads between missions.
